Pasture, Range, & Forage Protection (PFR) Is a federal, area-based risk management tool designed to protect livestock producers against financial burdens due to below average precipitation. It provides coverage for grazing or haying land based on a rainfall index rather than individual farm yields

How it works: If the rainfall in your grid falls below your chosen percentage of the historical average for your selected interval in your respective grid, you receive an indemnity payment. Payments are automatic, so no formal production reporting is required. Can cover anywhere from 4-12 months of the year, depending on the needs of your operation.
